Governance Failure and Applicable Choice about the NPOs in China
The reform of the political and economic system and the establishment of socialist market economy system in China have opened unprecedented opportunities for the development of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in China. Since China is in a transitional period, many problems exist in the evolution of Chinese NPOs, such as irregular information disclosure, neglect of the public interest and lack of a strong sense of responsibility. These problems result from the absence of internal and external governance mechanisms within the NPOs—also a fundamental cause for governance failure of these NPOs. Based on the analysis of the root cause for NPO governance failure in China, this article refers to NPO governance mechanism abroad and presents a number of constructive methods for improvement of the governance mechanism within Chinese NPOs.
