Identification of critical damage value by notched round bar tensile test using image analysis

In this study, circumferentially notched round bar tensile test using image analysis is proposed. Tensile load and outer shape of tensile test specimen at necking point of specimen are measured continuously through the test by using load cell and CCD camera, respectively. Necking deformation tracking method is devised in the image analysis procedure for measurement of two necking shape factors (radius of necking cross section and necking curvature radius). Various stress components such as flow stress, tensile true stress and so on at necking point are calculated by Bridgmans equations using the tensile load and the necking shape factors. From the result, flow stress curve of high carbon steel is obtained even after the occurrence of necking through the test. In addition, critical damage values of four integrated ductile fracture criteria are identified and it is showed that the critical values change depending on initial notch radius and stress triaxiality at necking.
