Gear tooth profile optimization of pre-forging straight bevel gear
Hot and cold compound forging process was selected to produce straight bevel gear. The importance of preforging gear tooth profile was stated. AFDEX-3D software was used to simulate the cold sizing process. After analyzing the simulate results and process experiments, the advantages and disadvantages of equidistant and non-equidistant gear profiles were summed up. Using equidistant tooth profile, fold defect would exist if the cold sizing amount was large, while the roughness of tooth surface was bad if cold sizing amount was small. Using nonequidistant tooth profile, which increase the meshing region sizing amount and decrease the root sizing amount, the defect disappeared. Through comparing the results, it was found that the non-equidistant preforging gear tooth profile was better than equidistant.
