Extrusion of sector shell of magnesium alloy

The backward extrusion process of a sector shell has been studied by numerical simulation. Unformed defect at the oral part of extruded shells induced by the billet shape has been solved and the forming process has been designed on the basis of numerical simulation. Experiment has been done for the forming of sector shell at 380 °C and the crack at the outside wall has been found in the center of extruded shell. Choked groove at the inner wall of die and reducing the lubrication have been used to solve the problem of cracking and the shell without cracking has been formed. The inner shape of warm extruded shell was cold sized and its dimensional precision and surface roughness met the requirement of the shell.
