Impact of Port Disruption on Supply Chains: A Petri Net Approach
Seaports play the roles as nodes for maritime and multimodal transport in both inbound and outbound logistics processes and as logistical platforms where logistics-related activities occur. These logistical platforms are important and indispensable for the effective and efficient management of flows of materials, products and information in the supply chain management. However, any disruptions at a port can have direct impact on the ports ability to continue operations, therefore affect the supply chains and the parties served by the port. The research devotes to the study of the impact of port disruption on supply chains. It aims to illustrate the application of the Petri Net approach in analysing the impact of port disruption on supply chains and the parties involved. The paper shows that a Petri Net model can provide stepwise processes and an efficient environment for conducting simulation and other analyses on the study topic.
