Flame-retardant and mechanical properties of polylactide blended with a novel phosphorus-containing polyester
As one of the best-known bio-based plastics, polylactide (PLA) has attracted more and more attention because of its biocompatibility and biodegradability. It is a good candidate as replacement for petrochemical thermoplastics in the fields of medical applications, packaging materials and production of fibers. However, its inherent fiammability and brittleness restrict its potentially wide application. Therefore, to explore effective ways for improving the flame retardancy of PLA is needed. Based on previous research results, it was proved that phosphorus-containing flame retardants was efficient for PLA among all kinds of additivetype flame retardants. Meanwhile, we have attested that polyester was an effective plasticizer to improve the mechanical properties of PLA.
