Synthesis, characterization of a novel organophosphorus flame retardant and its application in polypropylene
Nowadays, intumescent flame retardant (IFR) system is mainly used in flame retarded PP as a kind of halogen-free flame retardant due to their environmentally friendly properties of low smoke, low toxicity and low corrosion. Traditionally, an IFR system is composed of three basic components: acid source, carbon source and gas source. A widely IFR system is APP/PER/MA. However, the typical IFR system has some disadvantages such as moisture sensitivity due to the hydrophilic properties of hydroxyl group in pentaerythritol and poor compatibility in polymer matrix. Moreover, APP is also easily attacked by moisture and agglomerate. In addition, the amount of IFR additive is larger. In order to improve the flame retardant efficiency of IFR, some researchers have tried many methods including synthesis of the novel charring agent, application of microencapsulated APP, use of the complex with synergist and IFR.
