Preparation and property of novel halogen-free flame retardant ABS by P-N blendable flame retardant packages
With styrene-butadiene-acrylonitrile (ABS) as subtstrate resins, by adding resorcin bis(diphenyl phosphate) (SOL-DP ) condensation polymer and melamine cyanurate ( MCA) blendable system as flame retardant packages, we prepared halogen-free flame retardant ABS composities and studied its mechanical properties and combustion performance. The test results showed that, when the effective content of SOL-DP and MCA in the base ABS resin reached 8% and 4% respectively, the mechanical properties of the samples maintained about 90%, and LOI values reached as high as 27.5, meanwhile, the samples achieved a V0 UL-94 reading as might have been expected. SOL-DP with MCA can promote char formation and prevent the combustion behavior of the ABS effectively. When SOLDP and MCA blends total content amount to 15% in base ABS, heat release rate and total heat release rate has dropped significantly, such as the maximum heat release rate dropped to 70%.
