The flame retardant and thermal properties of zinc alginate films
The flame retardancy and thermal stabilities of zinc alginate films were studied by LOI, UL-94 and TG tests. The LOI and UL-94 results indicated that zinc alginate was the inherent flame retardant material and could be used in strict flame retardant regulation field. The TG results showed that the thermal stabilities of zinc alginate were better than those of sodium alginate at lower temperature zones. However, the thermal stabilities of zinc alginate were worse than those of sodium alginate because of the decomposition of zinc carbonate formed at higher temperature zones, and CO2 formed by the decomposition of zinc carbonate could improve the flame retardancy of zinc alginate.
