Novel phosphorus-containing flame retardant copolyester ionomers with excellent antidripping effects
Poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) is the most important semicrystalline polyester material with low cost and outstanding performances, used for many applications such as food packaging, textile fibers, and films. However, the use of PET is limited by its combustibility and serious melt-dripping during combustion. A series of phosphorus-containing copolyesters and their nanocomposites have been successfully prepared and investigated, but the flame retardant copolyesters have serious melt-dripping phenomena. In this study, a novel flame retardant poly(ethylene terephthalate) ionomer(PETI) was synthesized by melt random polycondensation using phosphorus-containing ionic monomer (DHPPO-Na) , terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG) (Scheme 1).
