Halogen-free flame-retardant flexible polyurethane foam with a novel reactive flame retardant
Flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF) is highly flammable due to the porous, open-cell structure and low density, which limits its application in many fields. Nowadays, more and more attention is being paid to improving the flame-retardant properties of FPUFs in different household stuffs such as mattresses, furniture cushioning and automotive seating. The main approaches taken to improve the flame retardance of FPUF are to incorporate flame retardants either as additives or to incorporate reactive flame retardants into the FPUF formulation. In this study, a novel reactive flame retardant was synthesized and incorporated into flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF). The effects of the reactive flame retardant on the morphological, thermal and flame-retardant properties of FPUF were well investigated.
