Study on properties of EVA/MH flame retardant system synergized with aluminium hypophosphite

Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) is a copolymer used for many applications because of its excellent properties. However, inflammability (L0K18), melt dripping and toxic of black smoke limit its applications I1. Therefore, it is essential to improve the flame retardancy of ethylene-co-vinyl acetate(EVA). Magnesium hydroxide(MH) flame retardant efficiency is low and adding amount. But high dosage was required to achieve appropriate level of flame retardancy. Mixing aluminum hypophosphite(AH) into magnesium hydroxide to enhance magnesium hydroxide flame retardant properties, so as to reduce the filling quantity, obviously improve the effect of flame retardant. The synergistic effect of aluminum phosphate on flame retardant systems was comprehensively investigated. In this paper, synergistic effect of aluminum hypophosphite(AH) was investigated on EVA/MH (magnesium hydroxide) flame retardant systems and EVA/MMH (Modified magnesium hydroxide) flame retardant systems.
