Novel inherent flame retardant TPU/Attapulgite nanocomposites via synergistic flame retardant approach

The potential applications of organic nanomaterials are countless potential applications. Nanoparticles, such as montmorillonites single or multi wall nanotubes , silica and other silicates, titanium oxides, as well as other miscellaneous types of compounds, have been extensively studied for their potential as an effective alternative approach to achieve flame retardancy for polymeric materials. It had been found that the introduction of nanosized inclusions into polymer matrix have remarkable positive impact on certain aspects of material flame retardancy, especially the heat release behaviors of polymers. However, utilizing a nanocomposites approach alone as flame retardant strategy for polymers has its inherent limitation: the introduction of nanoparticles into the polymeric matrix will not lead to the inherent flame retardancy.
