Harmonized Approach to Future Toxicology Testing for Pesticide Regulation
There are 4 major view points to guarantee safety of pesticides: (1) Phyto-toxicity, (2) Operator∏s health, (3) Consumer ∏ s health, and (4) Ecotoxicity. In order to minimize risk on human health from unexpected exposure, a huge volume of toxicological should be prepared through various toxicity studies. Acute toxicity studies via oral/dermal/inhalation routes, eye/dermal irritation studies, and dermal sensitization studies are mainly focused on Point 2. For the Point 3, sub-chronic and chronic repeated oral toxicity studies, reproduction toxicity studies, and carcinogenicity studies are designed to evaluate toxicity for lifespan, transplacental and multi-generation exposure. Genotoxicity data helps to interpret the carcinogenity is primary or secondary.
