Evaluating Effectiveness of Fungicides for Control of Phytophthora capsici in Cucurbits
Phytophthora blight, caused by Phytophthora capsici, has become the most important threat to cucurbit production in Illinois. Currently, management of P. capsici in cucurbit fields is achieved by crop rotation, sanitation, and use of fungicides. There is no measureable resistance in cucurbit crops to P. capsici. The use of effective fungicides for management of Phytophthora blight in the fields where P. capsici has already established is essential. Prior to the year 2000, there was no acceptable effective fungicide for control of P. capsici in cucurbits in Illinois.
