Rate Pulmonary Proteome and Protein Networks in Response to the Herbicide Paraquat
Paraquat (1, 1-dimethyl-4,4-bispyridinium dichloride) (PQ) has been one of the most widely used herbicides worldwide since its introduction in 1962. PQ, when ingested, is very toxic to mammals including humans and may cause acute respiratory distress syndrome. PQ accumulates in the human lungs at a concentration 10 times greater than that in the other tissues. It has been reported that PQ induces pulmonary fibrosis in humans and rats. No successful treatment has passed clinical trials although many treatment protocols for PQ poisoning have been studied.
