Recent Advances and Future Prospects on Pesticide Application Equipment in Japan
The most popular application equipment in Japan is power sprayer. There are still a lot of small-scale farmers, whose management area is smaller than lha, and many of them use several kinds of hand spray nozzles and portable type power sprayers. However, large-scale farmers, whose management area is larger than lha, and wide fields (paddy or upland fields) have been increasing gradually especially in northern and eastern area of Japan. In those areas, unmanned helicopters (with spraying or atomizing unit) are used especially for paddy fields, and tractor mounted or trailing type boom sprayers are used for upland crops and vegetables. For example, total working area of unmanned helicopters for pesticide application is 830,000ha in 2010.
