Chitin-catabolism Targeted Pesticides: Biology and Chemistry
Chitin, the polymerized N-acetyl-glucosamin conjugated by β, 4-glycosidic bonds, constitutes insect exoskeleton and peritrophic membrane. The degradation of chitin is one of the most vital processes for insects. Since chitin is not distributed in mammals and human, chitin-catabolism is put under the consideration of the ideal target for developing species-specific pesticides. In this presentation, my labs progress within the realm of this field is focused.
