New Strategy to Design Aphid Repellents Based on Aphid Chemoreception Systems
Aphids represent one of the major pests in agriculture, responsible for their damage of sucking directly the plant sap and spreading plant virus infections. The large number of aphids species, their fast breeding and ability to develop resistance to chemical insecticides make their population control challenging. However, their chemical communication systems are exceptionally simple, both with respect to the semiochemicals they use and to the proteins involved in their detection. To design new aphids control agents based on the aphid chemoreception system may be a new way for aphids population control.
