An Insecticide-induced Novel Glutathione Transferase in Lepidoptera
The glutathione transferase (GST) superfamily is associated with the detoxification of endogenous and exogenous compounds. We found that a GST mRNA that was induced in the fat bodies of a silkworm strain exhibiting diazinon resistance. Phylogenetic analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence indicates that this GST belongs to an unclassified group previously (named bmGSTu). Here, we investigated the enzyme properties of this GST and sought to further characterize this GST, bmGSTu, by solving and refining its crystal structure and identifying its catalytic residues.
