Mechanisms of Resistance to Herbicides
Herbicides are widely used for weed control in agricultural production and also in non-production systems. The intensive use of herbicides has resulted in the evolution of resistance. Plant populations become resistant to herbicides because the intense selection pressure provided by herbicide use selects for any individual within the population able to survive application of the herbicide. There are several mechanisms of resistance to herbicides that have been identified.
