PIV Investigation of Secondary Flows in a Low-Speed Axial Compressor Rotor Passage
In order to research the distribution and the occurring mechanism of the axial compressors rotor passage secondary flows, the S3 surface flow fields of a low-speed axial compressor have been investigated experimentally and numerically. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) has been adopted in the experiment. The PIV system which appropriates for S3 surface flow fields measurement in the compressor rotor passage has been developed. S3 surface fields of different rotating speeds and mass flow conditions have been measured, and numerical investigation has also been done according to the experiment. As a result, the numerical results agree well with the experiment results;secondary flows are detected in the rotor passage;at the same rotating speed, secondary flow region moves from the shroud towards the hub as mass flow decreases;at the same throttle valve angle, the flow fields vary little with different rotating speeds, except that the flow velocity increases as the rotating speed increases.
