Innovations in Hypersonic Flow Simulation
Impressive and broad-base technical progresses have been made in high-speed propulsion and power generation over past decades. At the transient state of major hypersonic programs worldwide, it will be invaluable to assess the-state-of-art advances and to project scientific needs for future attainment. The computational model and simulation capability for hypersonic flow is an interdisciplinary endeavor and has a very rich content in rarefied gasdynamics, high-speed fluid dynamics, nonequilibrium chemical kinetics, chemical-physics, radiative energy transfer, and ablation. The knowledge base is extremely vast for any individual to be very well versed. To avoid significant omission, the present discussion is limited to the topics of numerical algorithm development, nonequilibrium chemicalphysics, and the plasma actuators for flow control.
