The Influence of the Inlet Resistance on the Pulse Detonation Turbine Engine
The primary goal of this paper is to research the impact of inlet resistance on the pulse detonation turbine engine. The test rig consists of a pulse detonation combustor (PDC) and a turbocharger. The PDC consisting of an unvalued tube is integrated with the turbine which has nominal mass flow rate of 0.6 kg/s and 50,000 r/min. The PDC - turbine hybrid engine is operated on gasoline-air mixtures and runs for many 6+ min to achieve a thermal steady state, and then the engine performance is evaluated at different operating conditions. Results show that with the increase of the resistance of the engine inlet, the flow rate of the compressor decreases, and declines faster and faster. However, the turbine speed increases with the increase of the inlet resistance. Besides the resistance of the engine inlet does not affect the pressure at the compressor outlet and the parameters of the gas at turbine inlet and outlet.
