Investigation of Low Reynolds Number Effects on the Performance of Aeroengine
The Reynolds number is an important index for airflow viscous affecting on engine performance. Considering the influence of low Reynolds number, a general numerical simulation model of computing aero-engine performance was developed, which corrected the empirical errors in the Wassells approach and could be applied in a wider range. The simulated engine performance included thrust, special fuel consumption, compressor efficiency and mass flow, turbine efficiency and mass flow. It concluded that the Reynolds number influenced obviously with a high mach number and a high altitude, and affected the low-pressure components more than the high-pressure components.
