An Optical Fiber Blade Tip Clearance Sensor for Propulsion Health Monitoring
Non-contact structural health measurement in the hot sections of gas turbine engine is very important for enhancing the reliability of aero-engine. First, a type of optical sensor technology is beneficial in that its accurate, simple and thin in structure was presented. Then in order to improve the precision and linear range of the sensor, least squares support vector machines (LSSVM) algorithm is studied. And it is intended to use the sensor for monitoring the blade tip clearance and rotor vibration. Therefore, as the primary conception, the use of optical sensors for this application was tested on a rotor test rig. The test results show that the sensor system data sampling rate is about 100 kHz, and its resolution ratio is better than 0.01mm. The sensor was able to detect the single and average blade tip clearance. It will be presented to show the viability of the sensor for use in aero-engine health monitoring.
