Research on Active Clearance Control System of HPT

The development of model gas turbine has reached a very high level in recent years. The continuous development and improvement makes the production of high efficient turbine become possible. Designers try to avoid all kinds of the flow loss to further improve the efficiency. Many researches show that the tip clearance, especially in HPT, is one of the most significantreasons of gas turbine performance. It is particularly meaningful to reduce the turbine tip clearance and reducing the tip leakage loss within the considering of friction. The study of the active clearance control (ACC) system previously becomes an essential and emerging aspect of the design and control of aero-engine. The paper elaborates on the latter researches of active clearance control and introduces the definition and classification of ACC system. This paper mostly focuses on the design precept and steps of the active clearance control system of the high bypass turbofan engine, which is verified the feasibility through the active clearance control system applied on some certain type of aeroengines. Meanwhile, it exposes the mechanical construction of the active clearance control system and shows the path of cooling gas in HPT.
