A New Controller Design Method for MIMO Time Delay Non-square Systems
In this paper, a new controller design method using internal model control (IMC) is proposed for multivariable non-square systems in which the number of input variables is not equal to that of output variables. The idea of an effective open-loop transfer function is introduced to decompose the process model of a MIMO system into a set of equivalent independent single loops. Using model reduction technique, the transfer functions of equivalent loops is simplified to the reduced-order form. Based on the reduced-order model, we design Smith delay compensation decoupling controller using internal model control. The design method proposed in this paper can significantly improve dynamic performance and robustness of the control systems as can be seen from the simulation results. Shell standard control problem is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
