Numerical Study of Airfoil Flows with the k -ω Model
The turbulent flows over AS240 and NACA4412 airfoils had been simulated numerically. A novel two-equation turbulence model named k -√ω model has been used, which is directly derived from standard k-ω and &k-ω models based on a new standpoint. In this paper, velocity profiles and the aerodynamic coefficients of airfoil AS240 at 8°/ 19° attack angle and NACA4412 at 13.87° had been calculated and compared to experimental data. The good agreement between the numerical results using the k -√ω model and the experiment data indicates that the new k -√ω model offers realistic prediction. The main finding of the study is that the new k -√ω model is good at prediction of separated flows and captures the flow feature of that pressure-induced separation adequately. All calculations are implemented on OpenFOAM 1. 7. KOpen Source Field Operation and Manipulation).
