Verification of a dominant factor in a commercial vehicle for pulling
There are many factors evaluating passenger vehicle performance, i.e., safety, durability, fuel efficiency.Commercial vehicles with heavy loads should also be tested to those lists.Among various test results in a commercial vehicle, a pulling at breaking operation is one of the most significant performances for safety. If it is vulnerable in such situation, a driver cannot control the truck and might face a critical accident. In this paper, a truck was modeled with the ADAMS/CAR program, and is simulated to find out pulling reasons. The vehicle size has height of 2,325mm, total length of 5,325mm, and total weight is 5,780kg.The ADAMS/CAR model consists of 5 main subsystems (front suspension, rear suspension, steering, front leaf spring, rear leaf spring). The leaf spring suspension system was adopted, in which a drag link steering system is installed to control steering. For the tire model, MF (magic formula) tire model was used. This research focused on the location where the drag link attached to a knuckle. The attachment point is changed to ±30mm in all direction (X,Y,Z) to check which direction is dominant in pulling phenomenon. After checking a dominant direction, the location which is strong at pulling at braking moment is founded.
