Reduction of Degrees of Freedom in Three-dimensional ANCF Beam Element by Higher Order Shape Function

This paper presents a reduction method of the degrees of freedom of three dimensional Absolute Nodal Coordinate Formulation (ANCF) beam element represented by the higher order shape function which is a linear combination of bending vibration modes of the fixed ends and third order shape function, instead of the shape function of the conventional ANCF.This makes improvement to the calculation cost while computation accuracy which achieves the same accuracy to that of the conventional method.Numerical results verified the varidity of the presented method.
