Dynamic Behavior of the Cutterhead of Shield Machine

FE simulation for the cutterhead assembly of 8m Shield Machine was investigated for different loadings. The background of the study is the optimal design of the 8m shield machine used in Pearl Trigonum with unique geologic setting. The main problem to be solved is the effect of dynamic loading from the complex geological condition on the normal working of shield tunneling. The FE method was used to complete the simulation by taking advantage of a commercial FE software. The results show that the skirt part of shield cutterhead is much more influenced by dynamic loading. The sudden change and non-uniform loading may impact the normal operation of shield tunneling. The core conclusion from the investigation is that the optimal design sensing to the dynamic loading should be stressed for the successful optimization of shield machines.
