Comparison of Suitable Approaches to the Cable Modelling for Cable Mechanisms

An interesting application of cables or fibres is the replacing of chosen rigid structural elements of manipulators or mechanisms with these flexible elements.Therefore the suitable modelling methodology should be created and tested.Several approaches can be used for the cable modelling in the framework of mechanisms dynamic models.This paper deals with the comparison of the three various approaches to the cable modelling (massless force model, point-mass model and absolute nodal coordinate formulation).An in-house software for the numerical simulation of a chosen mechanical system with cables based on these approaches was created.Calculated results are also compared with the results obtained by the commercial software alaska.
