Characteristics of Genetic Resources and Culture Practices of Broomcorn Millet (Panicum miliaceum L.)in Gangwon Province, Korea
we evaluated the characteristics of genetic resources of broomcorn millet to breed new cultivars and a few trial of culture practice was also attempted to improve the growth and grain yield of broomcorn millet in Gangwon province, Korea. 65% of the total accessions investigated shows heading period of 81 to 100 days. About 50% of 330 accessions have plant height of 141-180 cm and 31-40 cm long panicle. GWC50 was relatively short in period of heading but showed the highest grain yield(279 kg/10a) without lodging. Plant height and No. of tillers increased in black film mulching rather than in white film mulching and non-mulching. Direct sowing produced the highest yield(195 kg/10a).
