The study of the narrow gap TIG arc characteristics under transverse alternating magnetic field

Welding arc play an important role in the process of welding, its characteristics directly influence the flow and the flow pattern of liquid metal in the molten pool, sectional dimension of the weld seam. Especially analyzing and solving the bad fusion of the side-wall as a decisive role in the narrow gap welding. This paper mainly study that the conventional TIG and narrow gap TIG arc characteristic under the action of transverse alternating magnetic field. The results show the conventional TIG arc voltage appears cyclical changing and frequency of the two times for alternating magnetic field, arc peak pressure fluctuations, and the small arc shape swings and increased around tungsten electrode under the effect of transverse magnetic field. The narrow gap TIG reduce to arc pressure, but the arc pressure distribution are not clear around the central of tungsten, and arc can be filled with narrow gap under the effect of transverse magnetic field. The transverse alternating magnetic field can make an effective role with side-wall; promote the fusion of the side-wall.
