Digital close loop control system for current-programmed arc inverter

A small-signal model of current–programmed pulse width modulation (PWM) converter which including the equivalent sampling effect is introduced and analyzed. In this model, an addition pole is brought out by the sampling effect in the current-loop gain, and it affects the inner current loop’s dynamic bandwidth and stability. By selecting the appropriate stability parameter, Q, which determines the additional pole and describes the degree of peaking in closed-loop transfer function, a current-programmed full-bridges arc welding inverter’s control model with maximum frequency bandwidth and stability can be accessed. Meanwhile, a digital current-programmed PWM generator with slope compensation is developed to control the average current together with the digital signal controller. Experimental verification employs small and large amplitude pulse current outputs.
