A single camera stereo vision system by biprism for weld pool sensing
Compared with the 2D information of weld pool, such as width and length, three dimensional (3D) shape of the weld pool has more correlation with the weld penetration state and potential weld defect. In this paper, a practical stereo camera system that uses only one camera and a biprism placed in front of the camera was applied to capture image pair of the weld pool. The most advantage of the system setup is that corresponding point lie on the same scanline automatically, i.e. self rectified. The design and calibration of the system was given. The reconstructed 3D shape of the weld pool by the system validated the system’s feasibility.
