Thermodynamic Calculations and Optimization of Alloy System for Ultra-low Carbon Bainite Steel Welds
Ultra-low carbon bainite steel has been widely used in recent years for its wide range of heat input without preheating and excellent match of strength and toughness, so how to achieve good match of base metal and weld deposit is very important for its practical application. Computer aided design is a useful tool for weld to simulate and calculate phase transformation and microstructure. Thermodynamic calculating software FactSage is adopted in this study. Based on the chemical composition of Fe-0.04% C-1.8% Mn-0.6% Si, different welding alloy systems are designed with the addition of solid solution elements of nickel, molybdenum,Chromium and micro-alloying elements of niobium, vanadium, titanium. The phase transformation characteristics and chemical composition of precipitation are calculated quantitatively. An optimized alloy system for ultra-low carbon bainite steel welds is established.
