Porosity Formation of Deep Penetration Laser Welding Simulated by CFD

The quality of laser beam welding with deep penetration is related to the multi-phase flow of weld pool, and which forms the keyhole induced porosities. In this paper, the model was proposed to describe the multiphase flow of laser welding, including the forces interaction of fluid flow in the keyhole and weld pool. In addi-tion, an adaptive heat source model was proposed for the absorption of the laser energy in deep penetration welding. The multiphase flow of laser beam welding was simulated by using the developed model, as well as the formation of keyhole-induced porosities. The factors influencing keyhole fluctuation and bubble for-mation were discussed.
