Modeling of transient heat transfer and fluid flow in plasma arc welding with combined heat source model

The most crucial of modeling and simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer in keyhole plasma arc welding is choosing an appropriate heat source model. In this study, a three-dimensional heat source model whose parameters are adjusted after each iteration is established. And using this heat source, a 3D transient model is build to analyze numerically the evolution of the plasma arc welding process. The keyhole boundary and latent heat are deal with VOF method and enthalpy-porosity technique respectively. Then the temperature distribution, fluid velocity field and keyhole formation process are calculated. In this work, three cases of different experimental parameters are computed to validate adaptability of the model. And the accuracy of the model is verified through comparing the fusion line with the experimentally measured ones.
