Microstructure Characteristics and Precipitation of TC1/1060 Al Joint with Pulsed GMAW
Pulsed gas metal arc welding (P-GMAW) was introduced to join TC1 alloy with 1060 aluminum dissimilar metals. Microstructure of welded zone of TC1/Al joint was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Element distributions of fusion zone near the TC1 alloy and near precipitated phase in welded metal were analyzed by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Experimental results indicated that an obvious fusion zone with Ti-Al and Ti-Al-Si intermetallics was formed between TC1 alloy and welded metal. The width of heat-affected zone of TC1 alloy was approximately 1.0 mm. Phase transition from β to α′ phase occurred in heat-affected zone of TC1 alloy during P-GMAW process, and the acicular α′ martensite phase propagated multi-directionally. There are α-Al (Si) dendrite and primary silicon in welded metal of TC1/Al joint, and primary silicon particles distributed along the boundary of dendrite. Precipitated phases with Ti-Al and Ti-Al-Si intermetallics exist in welded metal.
