Educational Data Mining—A Review of Four Case Studies
Educational Data Mining (EDM) is an emerging field which exploits statistical, machine-learning, and datamining (DM) algorithms over the different types of educational data by performing two major tasks: pattern discovery and predictive modeling (Panov, Soldatova, and Dzeroski, 2009).Although EDM opens new possibilities in facilitating teaching, learning, and research, it is a new field for most of instructors and students in various education settings. The purposes of this study include providing an overview of EDM, summarizing common findings by reviewing four EDM studies, and discussing some of the most promising EDM research lines.
