Effects of Collaborative Pair-Programming on Novices’ Learning to Program Using Alice
This study aimed to examine how collaborative pair-programming and type of goal-orientation feedback affect novices’ programming performance and attitude after a 36-hour experimental learning activity using Alice. The preliminary analysis suggested that (1) the collaborative pair-programming group performed as well as the control group (the individual group) on Alice programming performance; (2) the mastery-feedback group outperformed the performance- feedback group on basic concepts but performed the at the same level on advanced concepts; (3) the masteryfeedback group showed higher degree of acceptance toward learning than the performance-feedback group; and (4) the collaborative pair-programming group perceived higher degree of attitude in the usefulness aspect toward the received learning activity than the control group.
