Numerical Research on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Lane-changed Overtaking Cars Based on Overlapping Grid
The flow field of two cars was simulated numerically in the CFD commercial software of Cradle through computer when lane-changed overtaking based on the overlapping grid and the k-co SST Turbulence model, and then the aerodynamic characteristics of two cars were obtained. By comparison and analyses of the coefficients of side force and yawing moment and as well the flow field around two cars while two cars relative positions varied, the flow mechanism and law of interference each other were investigated. The simulation results and the relevant conclusions not only can provide the theoretical foundation for the research of transient overtaking, but also provide the reference data for the Intelligent Drive System and can give a practical guidance for the driver as well.
