Econometric Tests on SMEs Credit Rating System of China’s Commercial Banks
A rating system which can fully reveal the credit risks is particularly important to the protection of the financial institutions, and even to the safe operation of the entire financial system. The current rating systems of China’s commercial banks are mostly developed for large enterprises. A specific rating system for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) is still missing. With the SMEs credit data of a China’s commercial bank and through the use of the Ordered Multiple Discrete Choice Model, the article carries out empirical tests on the rationality of the existing rating systems, and points out the necessity of the customized use of the rating systems in different industries. The empirical results show that, it is necessary and urgent to accelerate the establishment of the credit rating system which adapts to the SMEs’ characteristics in China. Meanwhile, empirical analysis provides reference for commercial banks to improve and amend the SME credit rating systems.
