Robustification of Backstepping Design Technique: A Jet Engine Compressor Model Example
Backstepping technique is one of the most poplar frameworks for designing controllers for nonlinear systems. Robustification of backstepping design is proposed because of the flexibilities presented in backstepping design, which include choosing various Lyapunov functions which are not limited in quadratic form, making the time derivative of Lyapunov function negative in different forms and some modifications in virtual controls, some of them have the possibility to avoid cancellation of useful nonlinearities. Several results about robustification of backstepping design was presented in strict feedback and less strict feedback nonlinear system, and these are demonstrated and compared with the conventional backstepping via the Moore–Greitzer model of a jet engine compressor system.
