Aeronautical Channel Modeling and Simulation

The variable characteristics of aeronautical channel and the high velocity of aircraft make the transmission of radio signal very complex. Based on the radio propagation characteristics in aeronautical channel, including the effect of Doppler shift and multi-path fading, we propose two aeronautical channel models, FLY Model-1 and FLY Model-2, which can simulate the air-to-ground data-link in higher and lower elevation angel district respectively. We further analyze the influence of different parameters (velocity, Rice factor, bandwidth, etc) through simulation results based on OFDM simulator. The results show the maximum velocity which the system can support in both models and offer a guidance for the designing of parameters such as SNR, bandwidth.
