Low Voltage Ride through with Active Damping for Doubly-Fed Induction Generator

With the increasing of unit capacity of variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) as the main large-scale wind turbine, power systems proposed a higher requirement to wind turbines in the external power network failure, especially for the uninterrupted operation capacity under grid voltage sag fault. Basis on the analysis of weak damping of double-fed generators, this paper used a new control in the current loop after adding an active damping. The external disturbance has been inhibited. The size of the active damping based on optimization method. The accession of active damping characteristics was simulated by Matlab, and an experiment was carried out for this control strategy, the results show the effectiveness of this control strategy.
