SEISMIC RESPONSE ANALYSES OF MINIMUM COST AND MINIMUM WEIGHT STEEL FRAMES

Optimum solutions and seismic responses are compared between minimum weight and minimum cost steel frames. The minimum weight problem to minimize structural weight under constraints based on Japanese seismic code and the minimum cost problem to minimize sum of steel material cost and fabrication cost are formulated and solved by GA.In numerical examples, inner beams and outer beams of the minimum weight frame are not same in depth, while of the minimum cost frame are same in depth.According to time history analyses, seismic responses of the minimum cost frames are slightly larger than those of the minimum weight frames.
