OBJECTIVE FUNCTIONS FOR SHAPE OPTIMIZATION OF FISHING RODS

To the best knowledge of the authors, there are only few discussions on shape optimization of fishing rods, so that it is still an open question, what should be optimized in the function of tackles. The present paper proposes simple objective functions for shape design of two types of rods. One is for angling fishes in stream and the other is for marine fishing on boat.In respect that these rods will be used in different situations, two different objective functions are proposed on the assumption that the rod has a circular solid cross-section with linearly variable diameter. The elastic rod deflection is predicted by the linear beam theory and the best cross sectional variation and rod length are determined.Numerical results are well acceptable, when compared to real fishing rods on the market.
